These templates are designed to help Duke instructors quickly create professional-looking Canvas site banners.

How to Use the Banner Templates

  1. Log into Google Slides and make a copy of this template. All edits should be made in your copy.

  1. To export the banner, go to: File -> Download -> JPEG image or PNG image.
  2. When uploading the banner image to your Canvas page:
    1. Add alt text to briefly describe the image (e.g. “Banner for ‘Introduction to Instructional Design | Fall 2025’, featuring a landscape photo of Duke’s west campus”).
    2. If the banner is purely decorative and adds no important information, mark it as “Decorative Image” instead.

Editing the Templates

  • In your copy, you can edit text, replace images, change colors, or add other visual elements such as logos.
  • Keep accessibility in mind: Ensure there is sufficient color contrast between text and background.
  • For more images, visit Duke’s Asset Management System (NetID required). If you use external images, remember to credit the source on your Canvas page.
