Overview
With Panopto, you can schedule automatic recordings and/or live streams in any of Duke’s configured classroom/conference rooms. You can also manually start recordings and/or live streams in your classroom, on your laptop, or on your mobile device using Panopto Mobile.
You can publish videos throughout Canvas in tools like Modules – and send in-video quiz question scores to the Gradebook.
How to Use
Panopto can be added to your Canvas course Navigation by choosing Settings and selecting the Navigation tab. Next to Panopto, choose the triple dot ⋮ and select + Enable. Then, select Save to confirm.
You can also find and use the Panopto tool in multiple locations throughout the Canvas platform:
- In the Assignments tool, select Submission Type and choose “External Tool.”
- In the Modules tool, select the + button and select “Add External Tool.”
- In the Rich Content Editor, select the Apps (Plug) icon and select View All.

Your school or department’s local IT group supports Duke’s Panopto service; contact them with questions and issues. The Duke OIT Help desk can also respond to Panopto-related inquiries. Panopto has extensive documentation on their support site.
